February Newsletter

FEBRUARY 2008

Family News

This month we were a guest-receiving household with the visits of Bethany International Ministries’ director, Theresa Hartford, and Bethany Brazil president, Carlos Paiva.  Later in the month we had the Kargas family (also have three daughters) from Wisconsin for two weeks.  Our visit with the Bethany leaders was a historical or mile-mark time for us as our international associates were able to witness the unity and maturity of our national team in Bolivia.  In just three days we were able to mark out points of cooperation and mutual support through a better understanding of our networking of ministries.

Our visitor Cody Kargas was an invited guest at the international school to lead both the junior high and senior high camps.  Cody’s family was able to stay comfortably with us during the camps, and their three girls had a blast with our three.  Unfortunately, during the Kargas visit Alan became very ill and thought maybe he had dengue fever.  It turned out to be some other kind of viral infection, but was nonetheless accompanied by three days of intense fever, followed by a bronchial infection.

Certainly our most impacting news this month is the discovery of a property in Santa Cruz that we felt led of the Lord to make an offer to purchase.  After years of moving from rent house to rent house, the Lord has provided for us a beautiful property, which will help us to wisely invest our ministry-partner’s support for the Kingdom rather than into the pockets of other landlords.  In addition, the purchase of this property will be 40% paid for with funds we have saved over the last 10 years and the remaining portion will be mortgaged through our own family estate at a low interest.  We give thanks to the Lord for the opportunity to “settle” with the provision of this property and hopefully show our commitment to the Bolivian people to extend the Kingdom of Christ with them.  We thank you again for your commitment to us, which extends a blessing on to many more future laborers.

Ministry News

On the 9th we had our second module of our Bivocational Missions course.  The course was entitled, “Introduction to Missions”, taught by Dalmiro Ortíz, a former student of Alan.

Alan has been invited to teach a missions module (Cross Cultural Communications) in Tacna, Peru at the end of March.  Also, he will be teaching a two-week module in April called, “Strategy in Missions” to students of the Bolivian Evangelical University at the post-grad level.  As a result, this month has been all about study, research, translating and planning for these courses.  As always, we appreciate your prayers for these training opportunities.

In favor of the least-reached,
